Glass Christmas Pickle, hide this pickle in your Christmas Tree! This seemingly American custom probably originated in the region of Lauscha in Thuringia. Others, however, claim that the tradition comes from Bavaria. In any case, this glass pickle emigrated to America around 1880 and has since been hidden in American Christmas trees at Christmas time. Whoever spots the pickle first during the gift-giving may open their present first or receives an extra gift. This tradition, which has largely been forgotten here, is now returning from America.
